Storage That Scales With Your Site

A powered shuttle runs the length of each transfer lane and deposit lanes, loading and unloading pallets without a forklift entering the room. An integrated lift carries the shuttle and pallets between levels, so one shuttle fleet can work an entire block instead of being locked to a single run.

How 4-Way Racking Works — Shuttle Plus Cross-Transfer

An integrated system of reliable 4-way shuttles, lifts, racking, and a smart fleet management software accesses every pallet location for their automated storage and retrieval. One fleet of shuttles can work a whole block instead of a single run.

Pallet presented to in-feed conveyor

Forklift or AMR presents the pallets to infeed conveyor, pallet goes through dimension, weight and pallet label scanning check before entering the 4-way system.

Lifts move pallets between levels

A pallet lift moves the pallet between levels through a seamless transfer between chain conveyors and 4-way shuttles.

Automated pallet put-away and retrieval

The 4-way shuttles transfer the pallets to (or from) lifts to the pallet locations via transfer lanes. Every pallet location is accessible by one shuttle fleet. The target pallet is retrieved and presented to out-feed conveyor through the system.

The Warehouse Control System software intelligently links to the WMS and ERP, plans storage locations, manages shuttle fleet and lifts in a user-friendly interface.

It’s a shuttle-based storage format where an in-lane shuttle is paired with a cross-transfer car that can move it between lanes and aisles — so one fleet reaches every pallet location, not just one lane.

A 2-way shuttle only travels within a single lane and has to be craned or forklifted out to work elsewhere. A 4-way system’s transfer car lets the shuttle relocate itself, covering a whole block of racking.

A crane-based ASRS uses a single dedicated stacker crane per aisle, giving very high throughput in that aisle but at a higher capital cost and with capacity fixed once installed. 4-way shuttle racking spreads a smaller shuttle fleet across many lanes, so you can start with one aisle and scale up incrementally as volumes grow.
